Basement Construction

Towards Designing And Constructing Basements.

If you wish to get a basement constructed in your house, then there are a lot of factors you need to consider which will help you make the decisions for your investment.

First of all, you should analyse your basement situation and make sure whether the basement is capable to handle the construction work done on it. If only a few renovations are needed in the basement, then it would be wise to ensure that you have a leak free and waterproof basement, as such cases cause a lot of problem in people’s homes. Therefore, once you take these precautionary measures for waterproofing your basement, you can ensure that you are preventing a lot of damage and repairing cost.

After ensuring that you have a basement which is ready for construction work, now you can decide and settle on a plan for your basement.

If you want to add a new basement to your home, you can imagine that the construction would be very tedious. For this, your house would have to be supported from the sides, while a basement is being added to its design, and for this reason, all crew members would be working around your house from the sides. It is a very high expenditure.

For those who wish to get a new home constructed, but have not decided if they want to include a basement in their plan or not, it is better to get the basement made during the construction rather than make it after completing the house, as it has extremely high construction costs.

You should keep in mind that basement construction is a long process, with lots of noisy work going around it. You will find many houses with unfinished basements because of a reason. As a house is finished getting constructed, only the basement is left unfinished to ensure that the foundation settles in well and to check for leaks and seepage issues.

First you should wait for the foundation’s settling period to get over with, then you can start working on waterproofing your basement, checking for leaks and all is good.

A lot of people choose not to waterproof their basement, but simply skip this step and move on to finishing their basement after the settling period is over.

You may observe that in larger buildings and houses, you find that basements have been finished almost immediately after the construction work has completed. This is possible, if the construction workers are very careful with the slope around the foundation and in constructing a solid foundation over it and you can enjoy a finished basement without having to wait for the settling period to get over.

If unfortunately you did not complete the construction of your basement from the start then you should prevent cutting corners. By cutting down on costs you may get a finished basement but may regret your decision later for getting unreliable products and you may have to spend more on repairs.
